"Who you are is the most exciting thing, and all the things that have happened to you and all the things that you've seen. If a young person can get that early on, they'll be unstoppable,"legendary choreographer and film-maker Jamila Glass exclusively tells Yung Lords.
Jamila Glass is trailblazing the world of modern art, and doing so on her own terms. As a renowned and highly respected choreographer whose work has been featured everywhere from Netflix’s Dear White People, to Lena Waithe’s ‘Bad Hair’, Glass is on the fast-track to achieving a legendary status as a choreographer and filmmaker. In 2022, Glass continues to pave a way within the industry by providing space and opportunities for young Black and Brown creatives as the first Black Artistic Director of LA Contemporary Dance Company.
Yung Lords caught up with Jamila to discuss her successful career journey thus far, the positive impacts of dance on mental health, the need for more art-based resources in Black communities, as well as her best advice to young creators.
